Brand Design Process

Here’s a breakdown of what to expect during a branding project. If you have another sort of creative project, email me and I’ll set up a meeting with you to chat about it.

  • I would love to hear from you, even if you’re not entirely sure where to begin. Email me and we can set up a meeting in person or via phone/video call. Let’s chat through what you need and I’ll tell you more about what I do.

Style. Every designer has their own unique aesthetic. It’s so important that you hire a designer whose work and ethos you love and respect. I always ask new clients to check out my work first.

Rates. You can also check my rates here for some ballpark figures.

If we’re a good fit (and it's important we both feel that way!), I will follow up with cost estimates + timelines, and/or a detailed proposal if required. We can work out any details together.

    Milestone Payment and Service Agreement.

A deposit of 50% (or amount agreed on) is required before I start work. Once the deposit payment has been made, I will plot your project into my schedule, and send you a service agreement to sign.

  • We’ll discuss and establish your core values. This is almost always where I begin. Then we’ll explore your brand’s context. We’ll want to understand your audience and your industry landscape. So we’ll ask some big questions and dig deep for meaningful answers. Finally, we’ll work together on identifying any visual/aesthetic preferences you may have, and create a visual moodboard.

Depending on your needs and the size of your team, I may run a physical/remote workshop with you, or I may simply gather info over a telephone call.

    Client Sign-Off

Before starting on any design work, I’ll ask you to sign off on the moodboard, so we’re in agreement with the design direction.

  • There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Each project and team is so unique, that I keep this process fairly fluid, and involve you to the level that you want to be involved. I may share elements of your brand in sections as I go, or as a cohesive whole.

Visual elements: This will likely include your primary logo, alternate marks if applicable, colour palette, type selection, illustration and other supporting graphic elements.

Language and culture: This may include mission statements, brand stories, manifestos, codified core values – the words that define your culture. You may have existing ideas and language that you want me to incorporate. We’ll also define your voice and personality.

  • Revisions and Changes: The standard scope of work includes two sets of revisions. We can always extend the scope as needed. Rest assured that I want you to be absolutely thrilled.

Client Sign off: Once you’ve approved all the material, the project will be marked as complete.

Final payment: I will send you an invoice for all outstanding fees.

File transfer: After final payment, I will send you a dropbox link to your brand kit, that will contain all approved assets, and original artwork, where applicable.
